The Captivity of Janković Stojan is a Serbian folk epic poem about two captured heroes, Janković Stojan and Smiljanić Ilija. Taken by the Turks to Istanbul, they spend years in captivity before plotting an escape and returning toward their home in Kotari. Sung in the oral tradition, it offers a vivid, moving picture of captivity, brotherhood, and longing for home.
